Waag @ Dutch Design Week 2017

Waag is present at the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, as part of the 'Embassy of Health' with the exhibition ‘Chronic Health: Designing a Healthy Future’.

In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents work and ideas of more than 2,500 designers to more than 295,000 visitors from home and abroad. In more than hundred locations across the city, DDW organises and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, prize ceremonies, networking events, debates and festivities.

DDW is different from other design events, because it concentrates on the designs of the future. Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on offer, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Exceptional attention each year goes to work and development of young talent.

For 9 whole days, DDW boasts 100 locations, presenting the processes, experiments and ideas, answers and solutions thought up by 2500 designers. Come and be amazed, surprised or astonished. Ask yourself new questions, draw inspiration for your own answers and allow the power of design to convince you.

Waag is part of the 'Embassy of Health' where the exhibition ‘Chronic Health: Designing a Healthy Future’ is presented. For a full catalogue see this publication (pdf).

The Embassy of Health:
Health is high on everyone’s wish list, and our life expectancy is increasing. Thanks to technological developments, we can be more in charge of managing our own illness and health. But not with technology alone. Healthcare has improved and we are able to stretch out life expectancy: at birth, during life and at the end of life. The embassy deals with the interests of design and health, and shows a wide range of examples; from ‘open’ design and Do It Together care applications to high-end medical technology and creative prototypes.

Waag forms the 'Embassy of Health' in collaboration with VanBerloPhilipsU CREATE and the Máxima Medical Centre as part of the first edition of the World Design Event. Sabine Wildevuur from Waag’s Creative Care Lab is one of the curators of the exhibition. The exhibition is open daily from 21 - 29 October from 11 am - 6 pm.

Besides the exhibition, Waag is part of the following programs at Dutch Design Week:

Designing for Dementia
Presentations and discussions on design for dementia. Waag's Hester van Zuthem will present the project FIT. In this project the needs of dementia patients and their caregivers were mapped through their participation in co-creation sessions and critical design sessions.
