Waag Society @ SHA2017

Waag Society will pitch a tent at the SHA20217 non-profit outdoor hacker camp this year, taking place in The Netherlands in 2017 on August 4th to 8th. It is the successor of a string of similar events happening every four years. These are GHP, HEU, HIP, HAL, WTH, HAR and OHM.

Similar events are EMF Camp 2016 in the UK, CCC Camp and congress in Germany. The location is the Scoutinglandgoed in Zeewolde, 55km east of Amsterdam. The festival is organized for and by volunteers from and around all facets of the international hacker community. Knowledge sharing, technological advancement, experimentation, connecting with your hacker peers and of course hacking are some of the core values of this event.

Waag Society @ SHA: TSJA2017
Waag Society will be present at SHA2017. We’ll set up Techpolitics Village Tsja in collaboration with several partner organizations and individuals. The village is a meeting place for people and organisations that are interested in the political dimensions of technology.

We offer a daily programme from 10 am till 9 pm, containing talks, workshops and meetings in an open structure (unconference model). Part of the programme is prepared, but there is room for spontaneous activities involving (for instance) speakers from the main stage, or debating actual themes. The daily themes for the four days at Tsja are:

  1. Try out - Playful experiments with technology.
  2. I - The relation between the individual and tech.
  3. We - The relation between society, government and tech.
  4. Public-Private Partnership - The cooperation between governments and corporations in relation to tech.
