We are seeking a furniture designer/builder at Fablab Amsterdam to produce some elements to implement in our infrastructure.
To have a Fablab in such a great historic location as the Waag in Amsterdam is charming, but it also presents a lot of logistic challenges. How can a digital fabrication lab take place inside an ancient building? We will try to aswer this question trough the design of useful pieces of furniture that will help us manage the space, materials and machines.
During your internship you will therefore learn virtually everything about our building and about digital fabrication in order to design some pieces of furniture. In addiction to that you will help during our open days on Saturday, to have a full understanding of the Fablab philosophy.
We invite anyone with a background in architecture, design, furniture making to apply for this internship position. You will need to have a little bit of experience in CAD Design (better if with open-source software) and a good set of manual skills. Experience with digital fabrication is certainly a plus.
What do we offer?
You will join our team at Waag Society, institute for art, science and technology, an independent media lab, that develops creative technology for social innovation. The foundation researches, develops concepts, pilots and prototypes and acts as an intermediate between the arts, science and the media.
Interns receive a stipend of 300 euro a month (based on a 40 hour per week contract). Applications, with your motivation and resume, can be send to our HR department. If you want to visit the Fablab, the open day is on Saturday.
