Discovering Amsterdam with your mobile phone as your guide. Peeking into stately canal houses unnoticed, or diving into the history of the city or peep behind the scenes of the Red Light District. It was possible with three mobile tours, developed for WCIT 2010.

WCIT 2010

These three mobile GPS tours of AMS 3.0 were an initiative of Waag and Amsterdam Innovation Motor and were made for WCIT 2010, the World Conference on Information Technology in Amsterdam. The tours were developed on the 7scenes platform for tours and games by interior design agency Concern, the Amsterdam Museum, the Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder and students of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Microsoft and Sparked support the initiative by activating the tours with a Microsoft Tag code. Besides these three tours, Culture Park Westergasfabriek made several GPS-routes at the culture park area.

The Museum Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder made a guided tour in the Red Light District. Henny Tinga, who has been active in the neighbourhood for more than 47 years as a soldier of the Salvation Army, is the virtual guide of the tour. Concern developed a tour that allows participants to get to know the Herengracht by boat, including the interiors and style rooms of the historical houses on this canal. The tour of the Amsterdam Historical Museum takes place in the neighborhood of the former residence of the well-to-do, nineteenth century couple Willet-Holthuysen on the Herengracht 605.

AMS 3.0 Tours was made possible by the Amsterdam Innovation Motor and with the support of the City of Amsterdam, the Province of North-Holland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
