In 2002, Teylers Museum in Haarlem opened a new wing called Room i. Waag was responsible for the interactive strategy of the new space and its implementation.

The digital reading room of Room i gave the visitor three choices: an online adventure game, an educational cd-rom collection and a renewed and expanded website for the collection of the museum.

Teylers Adventure is a mixed media game, aimed at pupils in the age group of 13 to 18 years, that was played partly in het museum and partly on the computers in Room i. Players met with Minx, a girl from the future that called for their help to save the museum.

The Story

A greedy heir of Pieter Teyler wants to sell off the complete collection of the museum. It is up to the players to prevent this disaster from happening. By fulfilling all kinds of assignments they can save the collection. In the museum they will find all the information that is needed for the Adventure. Clues are e.g. drawings of Michelangelo, an old coin catalogue and the painting of the Oval Room of the museum.

Museum projects

Waag's growing reputation in the museum world was confirmed with this project. After pilot projects with KidsEye in cooperation with Tate Modern in London and the Tropical Institute's childrens museum KIT, Room i was a next step in implementing software that does justice to the quality of exhibitions and collections (on and off line), the atmosphere of a museum and the vision of children.
