British artist Anna Dumitriu’s pioneering work fuses BioArt, sculpture, craft, and digital media to explore our relationship to infectious diseases, synthetic biology and technology. She works hands-on with the tools and techniques of microbiology and synthetic biology to create intricate artworks that reveal strange histories and emerging futures. As well as creating artworks collaboratively with scientists in laboratories at the cutting edge of science and in health-care settings, she is known for developing participatory installations through workshops for diverse audiences in order to share stories and create spaces for dialogue between researchers and the public.

Her extensive international exhibition profile includes ZKM, Ars Electronica, BOZAR,The Picasso Museum, The V & A Museum, Philadelphia Science Center, The Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, LABoral, Art Laboratory Berlin, The Museum of the History of Science and the CDC Museum. She was the 2018 President of the Science and the Arts section of the British Science Association. Her work is held in several major public collections, including the Science Museum London and Eden Project.

Dumitriu is a renowned speaker and has presented her work at prestigious venues including TATE Modern, Princeton University, Imperial College London, The University of Oxford, The Mendel Museum and UCLA. She holds visiting research fellowships at the University of Hertfordshire, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and Waag Society, as well as artist-in-residence roles with the Modernising Medical Microbiology Project at the University of Oxford, and with the National Collection of Type Cultures at Public Health England. She was the 2018 President of the Science and the Arts Section of the British Science Association.

Her work is featured in many books including 'Bio Art: Altered Realities' published by Thames and Hudson in 2016 and many other significant publications across contemporary art and science including Artforum International Magazine, Leonardo Journal, The Art Newspaper, Le Journal Des Arts, The CDC Journal of Emerging Infectious Diseases (cover), Nature and The Lancet.

She collaborated with Waag on her solo Romantic Disease exhibition (2014) at the Theatrum Anatomicum of the Waag, as lead artist on the the Trust me I'm an Artist series (2011-2017), on the ICT & Art Connect project (2013-2014), and the FEAT project (2015-2016). Dumitriu is currently collaborating with Waag as producer of her S+T+ARTS Residency with Alex May at Schindler (2019-2020).
