Smart citizens instead of smart cities

How to protect personal data in the smart city, a city that measures and monitors data to improve the quality of living? This question is central to the research report on smart cities by the Dutch privacy authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens), that was recently published. In the report, Judith Veenkamp, lead of Waag's Smart Citizens Lab, reflects on the importance of public values in the smart city: the citizen needs to be the central focus point of such a city.
