Connectivity Lab Live celebrated the new Connectivity Lab at Medea, Malmö University with a two-day creators event exploring innovative prototyping in the field of connected devices and social media. The event gathered visionaries, designers, programmers, makers and other creative minds for ideas and inspiration, talks, workshops, exhibitions and a 24-hour prototype challenge on 7-8 December 2012.
I was happy to be invited, together with Deanna Herst, Course Director of WdKA Academy Rotterdam, to present Waag's Fablab Amsterdam and the concept of Open Design. I was also in the jury of the 24-hours challenge, along with George Wright, Head of Internet Research & Future Services BBC R&D, Bogdan Tudosolu of Sony Mobile, Mikael Hegardt, R&D Manager at Svep, Kristina Anderson of CCID, David Cuartilles, co-founder of Arduino and Ralf Voncken, designer at LEGO Systems.
Overall, we were impressed by the level of the whole event and the facilities. The students managed to present us interactive prototypes which they put together from scratch in 24 hours. The lab itself was like an interactive garden full of makers, tinkerers, dj's and kids. A beautiful mix. Workshops took place and guest speakers wre present the whole day. The program can be downloaded here.
They also published a book called 'Prototyping futures' which is entirely available online. Host Asta Wellejus was very thankful for our appearance and hopes to collaborate in the future.
