The Ebola outbreak is threatening global health. Now more than ever, immunologists must develop new vaccines, and better ways to reach the point of need. The leader of this workshop, bioscientist Craig Rouskey, will present his revolutionary Immunity Project on HIV vaccines and how he envisions distributing these for free in "Hacking HIV: Creating, Assessing and Distributing a CTL-based HIV-1 Vaccine". During a practical we will investigate how hands-on immunologists like him research and engineer vaccines to eradicate viral infections. Researcher Rüdiger Trojok discusses the future of open source biology.
Do-It-Together Bio is a series of scientist/artist led biotechnological workshops regularly taking place at Waag. About Craig Rouskey
As a member of both Sudo Room (hackerspace) and Counter Culture Lab (community biolab) in the United States, Craig is a true biohacker. In his work he focuses on the development of therapies for the world's most pressing diseases. Previously working for pharma companies like Novartis, he is now active in revolutionary startups like the Immunity Project and GETit, aiming to develop cures for HIV and Gonorrhea.
Recently he joined the crowd funded Real Vegan Cheese project: genetically changing microorganisms to produce cheese without cow's milk. Interestingly each project has its distinct way of incorporating modern movements in biotechnology like Open Source and Open Access.
