Marleen Stikker is participating in the Open Cities and Smart Citizens session at the Open Governance Partnership conference in London on Friday, November 1, 2013 - 2:00pm to 3:15pm.
Convening voices from the global south and the global north, this session will provide a global outlook on how cities are engaging in open government and empowering bottomup social and technological innovation. Cities around the world are questioning the “smart city in a box” model – a centralised “one size fits all” vision of cities. The session explores an alternative vision for an open city, one built of many loosely joined parts, and foregrounding the interests of citizens as well as scalable business innovation. Drawing on insights from government officials, transparency activists, funders, social and business innovators, it aims to contribute towards a better understanding of the governance arrangements needed to foster more open, equitable and vibrant cities.
