Anna Roos van WijngaardenJournalist in Residence

Anna Roos van Wijngaarden is a journalist in residence at Waag. From October 2024 to February 2025, she will join the TextileLab to investigate the status quo of Dutch fashion journalism with a focus on sustainability. As a journalist in sustainable fashion she also writes for Dutch and foreign publications such as Harper's Bazaar, the Financieel Dagblad, and Lampoon Magazine.

As a former model and business administration alumni, Anna Roos has a distinct perspective on the fashion industry. She knows the business from the inside, and understands the challenges posed by the polluting but also lucrative industry. In her work as a journalist, she looks for stories that are solution-oriented or incite social debate. What is the potential of legislation to raise awareness about the impact of clothing? What deeply entrenched ideas explain how textile waste continues to be dumped in Africa? How do differences in worldviews relate to the way designers worldwide look at sustainability? In a volatile media landscape, how can journalism help readers develop a close relationship with clothing?
