Local authorities are increasingly using automation technology, AI or algorithms. However, it is not always clear to municipal officials what they can do when they consider this technology to be problematic. For the Algo-Resist project, Tilburg University and Waag Futurelab are organising two workshops for municipal officials on ways to resist potentially problematic applications of technology.
The meeting will focus on questions about tech-driven policy, such as:
- how do you recognise problematic technology policy when you are in the middle of it;
- what can you do about unacceptable policy?
Together with other civil servants, participants will engage in discussion and learn from each other. The workshops are – emphatically – descriptive in nature. In other words, it is not our goal to pass judgement on civil service actions or to prescribe how to act.
Are you interested in participating?
Please send an email to bono ⟨ at ⟩ waag.org with your name, title, position, and the day you would like to participate. The workshop will take place on two possible dates: 23 April and 11 May, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at De War in Amersfoort.
More information about the research can be found on the Algo-Resist webpage.
