OpenSCAD workshop basic

Fablab Amsterdam organizes two workshops on the open-source 3D modeling compiler OpenSCAD.

The first workshop introduces you to OpenSCAD. OpenSCAD is a 2D and 3D modeling environment in which, with simple basic forms, complex drawings can be made. At the end of the workshop you will be able to create your own drawings in OpenSCAD.

About OpenSCAD

OpenSCAD is free software and available for Linux/UNIX, Windows and Mac OS X. Unlike most free software for creating 3D models (such as Blender) it does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modelling but instead on the CAD aspects. Thus it might be the application you are looking for when you are planning to create 3D models of machine parts but pretty sure is not what you are looking for when you are more interested in creating computer-animated movies.

During the workshops we'll be covering the following topics:

  • Solid Modeling: what is solid modeling?
  • OpenSCAD User Interface
  • Basic 3D shapes
  • Basic 2D shapes
  • Extrusion Operations: 2D -> 3D
  • Transform, rotate, and scale
  • Combining shapes
  • Modifiers
  • Variables
  • Programming structures
  • Modules and functions
  • Libraries, use existing libraries and create libraries

Participants are asked to bring their own laptop and a mouse.
Cost of the workshop: 40 euros, pay on entrance (PIN payments are possible).
Your tutor is: Karijn Wessing.
