Kexin HaoArtist in Residence

We welcome performance artist Kexin Hao as Waag's newest 3Package Deal artist. Originally from Beijing and now based in the Netherlands, Kexin creates immersive, interdisciplinary experiences that engage audiences through movement, storytelling and play. Her work explores history, society, and heritage themes—often through participatory performances that borrow from pop culture archetypes such as workout routines, video games, and dining rituals.

Kexin’s recent projects delve into the interconnections between bodies—human and non-human, individual and collective. From investigating the symbolism of bats and sparrows in political narratives to exploring the intimacy between gut microbiomes and compost ecosystems, she challenges our perceptions of residues, waste, and interspecies relationships. At Waag, she will continue her research into microbiology, working across performance, music, and design to create participatory experiences that blur the boundaries between science, art, and sensory engagement.

We look forward to supporting Kexin’s journey as she deepens her artistic practice and develops new, experimental formats for public engagement.
