CIIIC
Immersive Experiences (IX) like virtual reality, 360-degree videos, augmented reality, interactive animations and games are playing an increasingly important role in our lives. IX is seen as one of the main drivers of the third major digital transition, which is having a major impact on how we organize our lives, work, education and leisure time.
The Ministry of Education Culture and Science created the Creative Industries Immersive Impact Coalition (CIIIC) programme. This programme is funded by the Nationaal Groeifonds ('National growth fund') and was developed in response to the need to empower the creative industries and content creators to seize emerging opportunities created by IX. Within this context, several development and research activities were undertaken.
Waag Futurelab worked on safeguarding public values within the implementation of CIIIC, together with PublicSpaces and the Rathenau Institute and on behalf of ClickNL. Together, we drew up practical guidelines that encourage creators to address public values and ethical dilemmas in immersive experiences (IX). Based on the guidelines, we also developed a self-assessment tool. This is part of the application process for various CIIIC calls. The guidelines and self-assessment tool are available on the public values page of CIIIC.
