Vibeke Mascini, by Verena Blok

Vibeke MasciniArtist in Residence

Vibeke Mascini explores, through sculptures, installations, video and text, a scaling of abstract phenomena into a sensorial scope, with the intention to seek agency from intimacy. In long-term collaboration with scientists, engineers, government employees and musicians she proposes a conscious understanding of electric energy as a statement of interconnectedness and entanglement—between species, media and nature, matter and energy. Her publications include: The Dent of Walter Umenhofer (2015), Cloud Inverse (2017) and The world is a verb (forthcoming in 2023).

Vibeke studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and received her BFA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She carried out artist-in-residences at Delfina Foundation London, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden, Fondazione Ratti in Como, amongst others. Currently Vibeke is a resident at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam. She teaches sculpture at the Fine Arts department of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) and is a member of the 'Design & The Deep Future Research Group', chaired by Alice Twemlow.

Work of hers is included in international collections among which: MoMA Library, New York (US), Bibliothèque nationale de France, Paris (FR), Columbia University Library, New York (US), Getty Reasearch Centre, Los Angeles (US), New York Public Library (US), The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, La Jolla (US).

Currently, Vibeke works with Waag Futurelab within the World Weather Network, to be launched June 21st, 2022.
