Community: Code for NL

From 2012 to 2014, Waag worked on Code for Europe, a fellowship program in which new smart solutions for cities were devised. With users in real-life environments, three - at the time new - technologies were explored: super Wi-Fi, sensor integration in Wi-Fi networks and the rollout of a municipality-wide glass fiber network.

Following this, Waag worked on Code for NL from 2015 to 2017. We organized fairs for developers within governments and other social agencies, with the goal of improving government and increasing citizen engagement through technology.

In the Code for NL programme, developers worked with all stakeholders on various social problems. They involved residents, government officials and civil society organizations in the practical use of technology.

Afterwards, the Code for NL Foundation was established, the Dutch network of open-source developers and designers working together on digital government. The goal is the successful digital transformation of municipalities, other governments and society as a whole. Code for NL is still active today. Check out their website!
