Half of manufacturing companies will leave Amsterdam-North by 2028

Over the last six months, Waag mapped Amsterdam-Noord's manufacturing companies. This area, which is originally an industrial area, is now rapidly changing in its destination: from combined living and working to just living. Waag collected data on length of stay and reasons for possible departure of maker companies. The initial findings of the study show that sixty per cent of the companies interviewed will leave their workplace before the end of 2028. Common reasons for this were an expiring lease and changing zoning plans of the municipality. The absence of affordable workspace in the city makes finding a new place difficult.
