Social media are no longer social. We seem to be trapped in big tech's digital business model. They control our connections, our content and our feeds. We're taking back control! In autumn 2026, Waag will launch oso.social: your gateway to the open social web.
oso and other open social media platforms run on open network protocols (such as ATproto, ActivityPub and Matrix) which ensure that no single party dictates the rules. Anyone can build an app or host a server. As a user, you can post, follow, share and stay up to date with the latest news and events, just as you’re used to. But here, you’re in control. You choose which content you do or don’t see. Your data is securely managed on a server based in Europe. Your account, posts, followers and interactions are stored here, but they remain yours. You can always migrate to another server without losing your digital identity or data.
With oso, you will have access to all apps developed using ATproto, such as Bluesky, Blacksky, Eurosky and more. At the same time, we’re building bridges between ATproto, ActivityPub and Matrix, so that you’ll soon have complete freedom to follow and share wherever and with whoever you want.
