Waag Futurelab
workshops digital autonomy

Want more control over your data? Take the first step towards digital autonomy.

Who has access to the sensitive data of the people you represent? And do you know where that data is stored and processed?

Many civil society organisations handle sensitive data. To store and process that data, they often rely on the same handful of big tech companies. However, data breaches are no longer the exception, they're recurring news. It's time to move away from that dependency and get a grip on your data.

That's why Waag Futurelab, commissioned by the City of Amsterdam, is running three free workshops on digital autonomy. Together, we'll map out how your organisation handles data and technology, and work towards a practical roadmap for becoming more digitally autonomous.

Wat will we do?

Across three workshops, on Thursday 8 October, 22 October and 19 November, we will:

  • map out the techonology (tech-stack) and data flows of your organisation;
  • explore which independent alternatives suit your organisation best;
  • develop a concrete action plan for making the switch;
  • test out a server in an environment set up for your organisation;
  • look at how organisations can possibly team up to make the switch together.

Who are the workshops for?

The workshops are intended for civil society organisations in Amsterdam that work with sensitive data and want more control over on how it's managed. Think of journalistic organisations with source data, energy cooperatives with membership records, and organisations working with refugees or other vulnerable groups.

We ask organisations to join with at least two people, ideally someone from management and someone from IT. That makes it much easier to put the knowledge and actionplan into practice afterwards.
