Seeing is believing - Datavisualization
Both the public and private sectors have huge amounts of factual information about our society. From crime figures to garbage collection routes, the quality of schools or traffic statistics. This information is often hidden in raw data which is hard to read if you are not a specialist. A clear visualization can help and let the data speak for itself. Infographics and useful apps give us the chance at a dynamic look in how our society functions.
But how to do this? How do you avoid suggestive interpretations and half-truths? In the first edition of our new series ‘Big, Open & Beautiful’, we will be talking about this with policy makers, designers and technicians. We will bring these different worlds together to look at the possibilities of datavisualization. Think of the infographics that are used in journalism for several years now. Or applications in other creative disciplines, such as fashion. The project 'Intimacy' by Daan Roosegaardeis a good example of how data and design come together: the dress becomes transparent when the wearer gets excited.
Big, Open & Beautiful is a series of Waag and Pakhuis de Zwijger on open data, big data and the possibilities of visualizing data. You can attend the sessions for free.
