On the western edge of Amsterdam lies the Lutkemeerpolder: Amsterdam's last piece of fertile farmland. The ground that consists of clay, makes it ideally suited for not only vegetable gardening, but also for creating art. Join the workshop or come along during the Open makerspace to explore the various possibilities of this 'gold of Amsterdam' together with artist Esra Sakir.
Open makerspace: The future of clay
Monday 20 May and Tuesday 21 May | 12:00 to 17:00
In the open makerspace, we will work with the raw clay collected during the workshop in the Lutkemeerpolder. We will mix the raw clay with traditional clay and other materials and create unique works of art that reflect our relationship with soil and food.
Wednesday 22 May | 12:00 to 17:00
On Wednesday, you can finish your artwork between 12:00 and 15:00. From around 15:00, we will proudly unveil the fruits of our work in a small exhibition. We will share our process and creations with friends and other enthusiasts as a conversation opener about visions of a sustainable future.
The Open makerspace is for all clay lovers, residents of Amsterdam West & Nieuw West, artists and anyone who wants to think about the future of soil and food. Secure a place by signing up via amsterdamclay [at] gmail [dot] com. We have space for 20 participants (per day).
During the activities, Esra may ask you for a short interview about your relationship nature, food and whether claying makes you reconnect with the soil. If you do not want to be interviewed, please let Esra know via amsterdamclay [at] gmail [dot] com.
