What are open socials, and how do they differ from the platforms we're familiar with? Join the Open Socials Club on Thursday 12 November and help shape the future of social media. In this first edition you will find out how open socials work, ask questions and get practical help using platforms such as Waag Futurelab's oso.social.
Social media have become less social. Big tech companies decide what you see, who you connect with and what happens to your data. Open socials such as Mastodon, PeerTube, Eurosky and oso.social show that things can work differently. Built on open standards, they give people more control over their online experience. You can share posts and videos, follow others and choose what appears in your feed, without a single company setting the rules.
During this edition of the Open Socials Club, you'll get to know open social media and what they have to offer. Whether you're already using open socials or are completely new to them, you'll have the chance to ask questions, share experiences and get practical help. You can also try out different platforms for yourself, including Waag Futurelab's oso.social. Bring your phone or laptop and sign up!
