PICNIC Festival 2012 opens its doors a day earlier this year for an OFF PICNIC program on Sunday 16 September that is open to the public. E.g. Transnatural, DUS architects, the MuseumApp, FIBER, Cities and Waag are featured in the program and welcome you to join this pre-festival.
Everyone is invited to visit workshops, exhibitions, or join in a cycling route through the city to get a taste of the PICNIC vibe prior to the official Festival on 17 & 18 September in Amsterdam’s Eye Film Institute. Thanks to PICNIC partners, they are able to host an exciting, mostly free, program in various venues around town.
PostNatural Organisms
Until 17 September, Waag and The Center for PostNatural History present the exhibition PostNatural Organisms: 11 preserved specimens of life forms that have been intentionally altered by humans through domestication, selective breeding and genetic engineering. From the controversial modified H5N1 Avian Flu Virus, to the glowing red Oxitec 'Anti-malarial' Mosquito and the Great Dane - don't miss this!
Finissage
During OFF PICNIC, Rich Pell, Director of the Center for PostNatural History and speaker at PICNIC ’12, will co-host a festive closing of the exhibition with Paul van Krimpenfort, scientist and ‘maker’ of bull Herman. The session will start at 16:00 hours.
