Waag Open: fake news, no thanks

At the State of the Internet 2024 conference, Kim van Sparrentak stated that you have to learn how to create fake news in order to recognise it.


Trolls, fake profiles and Russian disinformation campaigns. Unfortunately, this is the reality of the internet today. Luckily, in the Netherlands, we agree that it's important to be able to analyse the credibility and reliability of sources, information, and digital content.  Media literacy and critical thinking have been getting more attention in schools for a few years now, but in fact, everyone could use a crash course in fake news. Because with the emergence of generative AI, it's easier than ever to generate content.  

Texts and images are being produced non-stop and can obscure reliable news. How can you recognise disinformation these days? And what should we do with the amount of fake news? During this Waag Open, you will learn in a workshop how to create and recognise misinformation and discover what to look out for in order to debunk fake news. At the end of the evening, you will have the tips and tricks you need to recognise and interpret misinformation and disinformation.
