During this Waag Open, we will explore the possibilities and limitations of social media and search for new alternatives. Because although social media has become an integral part of our daily lives, we have no control over the platforms we use so intensively. Big tech's revenue model deliberately focuses on addiction and polarisation, with their algorithms spreading disinformation and thus undermining our democracy. With endless, addictive feeds, they also put pressure on our mental health. This has to change. And luckily, it can change.

In this workshop, you will learn more about the fediverse: an open social media network based on public values and open protocols. Despite these ideals, they are still largely under the radar, but we would like to change that. During this evening, you will gain practical experience so that you can continue experimenting on the fediverse after the workshop.
