Mary FarwyArtist in Residence
Mary Farwy works as a Hackitect, designer, bio-artist, writer, teacher and coordinator. She is an artist-in-residence at Waag and partook in BioHack Academy 2022. Her work is driven by dismantling the normative approaches to the architecture of the human body, its emotions, and means of production and consumption. Specifically she is interested in epigenetics and inherent trauma, amplifying underrepresented voices, architecting wellbeing, using bio-design to hack the supply chain, and injecting design academia with technology and science.
She co-founded 'Hackitects'; a concept lab that unapologetically hacks bodies and systems, working on project such as COCOBIOTA and SoilPunk. She obtained her Master's degree from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague, and her Bachelor's from Politecnico Di Torino (Italy). Farwy has been awarded the Royal Interior Architecture Department Award, and has been nominated for the Royal Masters Award and the Thesis Masters Award. Her work has participated in the Dutch Design Week, Fiber Festival and Art The Hague, among others.
