Buitenveldert is a neighbourhood of Amsterdam. In 1987 Buitenveldert was granted the status of a borough. In 1998 the borough merged with the neighbouring boroughs of Rivierenbuurt to form the new borough of Zuideramstel, which also included parts of the Prinses Irenebuurt. In 2010, after another merger, Buitenveldert became part of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid.

Waag and the City of Amsterdam organized four events with locals to find out how the neighbourhood can become more sustainable and healthier. How would it ideally look like in the future? During this series of events we will work on solutions for the area and co-create an app together that can enhance personal mobility.

This pilot in Buitenveldert was one of the local pilots of the European MUV (Mobility Urban Values). MUV solutions will be open, co-created with a strong learning community of users and stakeholders, and piloted in a set of diverse urban neighbourhoods spread across Europe: Amsterdam (NL), Barcelona (ES), Fundão (PT), Ghent (BE), Helsinki (FI), Palermo (IT).

Mobility and environmental data gathered via the mobile app and the monitoring stations, all released as Open Data, will allow policymakers to enhance planning processes and civic hackers to build new services able to improve cities’ quality of life in a more effective way.

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 723521.
