Collaboration between art and science at Beyond the Canvas

On 17 September, the third edition of Beyond the Canvas will be held at Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden. This event is designed for artists and scientists who are eager to delve into the vibrant intersection of art and science. Waag Futurelab is co-organiser as part of its ‘Kunst x Wetenschap x Samenleving’ (Art x Science x Society) programme

Creative exploration

In recent years, the fusion of art and science has given rise to awe-inspiring creations. When the boundaries between disciplines are blurred, new avenues for creative exploration appear. That's why this year the symposium will focus on the development of art-science hubs — dedicated spaces and networks that foster ongoing collaboration between artists and scientists. Speakers with extensive experience in building and sustaining such hubs will share best practices, offer practical guidance, and inspire new initiatives aimed at strengthening the art-science ecosystem.

Platform for collaboration

The symposium aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of art-science collaborations from multiple perspectives. Distinguished speakers representing academic institutions and practicing artists, will offer their unique viewpoints and experiences in this ever-evolving field. Beyond the Canvas hopes to provide a platform for stimulating discussions, fostering connections, and igniting new ideas among artists and scientists who are eager to embrace the possibilities of art-science collaborations.
