DIY: genetic modification (video)

Genetic modification is something you can learn. Waag's biotechnologist, Pieter van Boheemen, shows in this video what steps you should follow to create your own glow-in-the-dark e.coli bacteria. Important to know: you cannot conduct this experiment at home! It can only be done when you have a permit to do so. Luckily, our Open Wetlab is licensed to modify dna.

By hacking biotechnology, we hope to discuss the issues involved. What is desirable, and what not? What are GMOs, in fact? Are they potentially dangerous? And what is our position in regard to them?
