Successful ultra-HD live stream of surgery

On 11 December 2013, Waag, SURFnet and UMCU organized the pilot event Future Operations. For the first time in the world live footage in ultra-HD quality (4K) was sent via a live stream from the surgery room to a lecture room.

Following an operation live, missing no detail. For medical students and professionals this could be a huge advantage, and with utra-HD live streaming we are making this happen at the highest level. The pilot Future Operations is part of the project CineGrid Medical, which is all about medical applications of 4K: ultra-HD quality picture and sound. This footage is four times as sharp as normal HD material and opens up many possibilities for innovation in the medical world.
