Programming a computer with software is much easier than soldering electrical circuits. Does the same principle apply to living organisms? Yes! All you need to do is learn how to rewire living cells, by reading and writing living code.
During this meetup you will learn how to design your own genes using a genetic open-source computer-assisted-design (CAD) tool (not as hard as it sounds!). Step by step we will isolate a piece of living code from a natural organism, adjust it to our own preferences, watermark it with the Open Wetlab DNA label, build a new synthetic light-induced genetic circuit and execute the code.
About Do It Together Bio
During Do It Together Bio workshops you get to work with do-it-yourself biologists, scientists and artists to experiment on the intersection of art, design and biotechnology. The workshops exist of a mix between hands-on activitites, reflections and presentations of artists and scientists. In recent episodes we built new machines, such as the Bioprinter, techniques and protocols - often cheaper than the regular lab equipment. The people behind the Do It Together Bio workshops are Pieter van Boheemen (certified bio-engineer and DIY biologist) and Lucas Evers (head of Waag's Open Wetlab).
