In Amsterdam Noord, several inspiring neighbourhood initiatives have taken off in recent years. These initiatives give new impetus to living and working together in the district. On Saturday 20 April, the Museum Amsterdam Noord will open the exhibition De kracht van Noord ben jij (The Power of North is You): an exhibition that tells the story of local neighbourhood initiatives and the cooperation between residents and government.
De kracht van Noord ben jij is you highlights four social initiatives in Amsterdam Noord. How did these initiatives come about? And what can we learn from them? The exhibition shows the Northerners involved in these initiatives and how they make the neighbourhood better together. But it also focuses on the challenges they face; for instance, in cooperating with the municipality and other organisations, such as housing associations.
Based on The Toolkit Public-Civic Collaboration - published by Waag and STBY - the exhibition shows what social initiatives involve and can be jointly achieved. In addition, the museum organises discussion evenings where the possibilities offered by neighbourhood initiatives and the conditions for realising them are discussed with interested parties.
This exhibition is the first in a series of exhibitions offering a stage to several neighbourhood initiatives in Amsterdam Noord.
Museum Amsterdam Noord is making the exhibition 'De kracht van Noord ben jij' in collaboration with Tessel van Leeuwen of Waag Futurelab, Studio Wendy Rommers and Marjolein Smeele of bottom-up developer Common City.
