Amsterdam joins with Scottish local authorities to show the way for council services. At an event in Edinburgh on 31 May 2013, representatives of the City of Amsterdam will join Scottish Councils to show the potential of using data held by local authorities to create new web and app based services for local people.
The event will be attended by representatives from 21 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities. In addition to representatives from Amsterdam, the event will hear about two projects supported by Nesta. The representatives from the City of Amsterdam will describe digital initiatives and achievements using open data in their city, many of which can be transferred to Scotland.
Speaking about the Code for Europe programme, Ivonne Jansen-Dings (Waag) and Katalin Gallyas will join the Open Data event in Scotland.
Nesta’s Make it Local Scotland project has been running over the past 12 months and has supported projects with City of Edinburgh Council, Glasgow City Council and Orkney Island Council, as well as a collaborative approach between Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils. It has helped them work with with technology companies to create new services for their area. At the event, there will be presentations of some of the successes so far as well as the opportunity to learn from international examples in the Dutch capital.
