Dutch article on dna modification

A main article in the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant (special magazine 'Sir Edmund') features a recent development in bio technology: the reprogramming of dna with the CRISPR/Cas technique.

The article makes a round at some Dutch labs and explains the technique. The CRISPR interference technique has enormous potential application, including altering the germline of humans, animals and other organisms, and modifying the genes of food crops.

Our Open Wetlab also is mentioned in the article. Pieter van Boheemen notices that there is a lot of interest and that it is a returning subject at the open evenings of his lab. "We will probably start our first experiments with it this year," says Van Boheemen, "we just have to find the proper context and the right occassion to do so."
