The children that joined our FabSchool Kids series recently started with soldering their own mini computer: the Diavolino, a DIY kit by Mad Evil Scientist and a fantastic open-source hardware and software project. Kids are not only learning how to solder, nut also the basics of electronics and programming. Afterwards, they can take their Diavolino home and experiment further with the kit.
The first three afternoons of this FabSchool Kids are devoted to making the Diavolino. After that, they will work in small groups on their own make projects, that they will present at the last afternoon. The first series just started and the second one will begin in December 2014.
To solder the Diavolino we created an online Instructable and a free downloadable pdf, both in Dutch. The kit itself can be bought at the webshop of Mad Evil Scientist for a basic price of $ 11.95. With the right tools this can also be made at home. Instructions in English are available.
