From 13 until 16 May, it is "Measuring is Knowing"-week for the participants of the Smart Citizen project in Amsterdam, in which citizens measure the air quality in the city with affordable sensor kits. During these days we will provide them with extra information and will try to get and keep all kits online.
On 13 May 2014 we organize the Smart Citizen Café at the Waag, where one can join us to ask their questions about their Smart Citizen Kit, share knowledge and ideas and participants can meet each other. Some of the participants offered their help and we will invite them to support us in our task.
About the Smart Citizen Kit
What are the real levels of air pollution around your home or business? And what about noise pollution? And humidity? Now imagine that you would have this information, and share it instantly and compare it with other places in your city, in real time. With the Smart Citizen Kit, this becomes possible.
The low-cost sensors in the kit, developed at Fab Lab Barcelona, measure two toxic gasses in the air (CO and NO2), the temperature & humidity, the light intensity and noise levels. With a suitable enclosure, the 1.1 version of the kit can be placed outdoors, near a window or balcony.
