Wallen Festival

On Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, the cultural and social organisations and entrepreneurs on the Red Light District will open their doors to the neighbourhood. Come and experience the rich culture of the vibrant Red Light District!

You can pick up a program booklet at all participating locations starting June 16. Do so, for example, at Café-Restaurant In de Waag.

Wallen Festival at Waag Futurelab

Come to the Capsicum store on Saturday, June 24: during the Wallen Festival, their doors will be open from noon to five. Waag's TextileLab will move to this special natural fabrics store for the occasion. We will tell all about our Local Color project and hand out seedlings of the indigo plant, which can be used for the production of natural dyes for textiles.

When: Saturday 24 June 2023
Where: Capsicum Natural Fabrics
Oude Hoogstraat 1
1012 CD Amsterdam
Time: 12:00-17:00 hrs
Walk in: Free

About Local Color

Currently, in the textiles industry garments are mostly dyed using chemical colours. We think it’s possible to not only dye textiles naturally, but also to put in place a city wide circular closed loop system to do so. Collectively, as a city, we will grow plants that produce natural colours, and create dyes using both ancient techniques and innovations and knowledge already present in the TextileLab.

Want to participate in this experiment? Check out the first Local Color paint garden on the Marineterrein, take some seedlings home during a Waag event, or participate in the natural paint workshops we are organising at the Waag.
