Find out how to grow mycelium and make your own mycelium panel in this workshop on Thursday 8 May. You will go home with the mycelium panel, ánd with instructions on how to care for it and monitor its growth.
On Thursday 5 June, we will come together again at Waag Open: Fungateria and use our experiences to explore the future of living mycelium architecture.
What is mycelium?
Mycelium is the root network of mushrooms. Depending on the conditions in which the mycelium network grows, it can take on a similar appearance to plastic, foam or leather. This is why there is a lot of interest in mycelium as a natural building material. But is using mycelium really that nature-friendly? What does it require? And what do you do with the mycelium when you have enough material and don't want it to grow any further?

Waag Open: Fungateria
What will change in architecture if we see mycelium as a living being that we can grow? Who knows, maybe buildings will grow like mushrooms in the future! During Waag Open: Fungateria, we explore alternative ways of building together with nature. Playfully, we imagine the future of living mycelium architecture.
Please note: this programme consists of two events: this workshop on Thursday 8 May, and Waag Open: Fungateria on Thursday 5 June. The ticket provides access to both evenings.
Don't want to join the workshop, but do want to explore the possibilities of mycelium with us? You can buy a separate ticket for the programme on Thursday 5 June via the Waag Open: Fungateria page.
