Matérialités Futures is a course led by Aurélie Mossé and Jean-Francois Bassereau at EnsAD and aims to explore new opportunities for textile, material and surface design through a design-led research project developed in collaboration with TextileLab Amsterdam / Waag.

Students will be exposed to new materials, processes, technologies and methodologies in relation to textile design practices. They will use textiles and materials as a creative medium to question their relationship to the world as designers to nurture innovative scenarios, materials or prototypes.

Students will explore the potential of microbiology for the development of more sustainable textiles processes and outcomes. TextileLab Amsterdam will teach students about biofabricating dyes and materials. By learning how to produce colours from bacteria and such, they will question and explore the design opportunities and constraints offered by these living substances for the expansion and renewal of the textile industry.
