How to build an open source sound level meter for the Internet of Things

The Amsterdam Sounds project

The Amsterdam Sounds project maps sound in Amsterdam. The second pilot is currently taking place at Marie Heinekenplein in the Pijp in Amsterdam. Here you can find the map with noise measurements. We are investigating how a citizen monitoring network can contribute to finding solutions for noise nuisance. To be able to do this, an important part of the project is measuring sound levels with a sensor network of open source and hardware sound meters. Waag has developed its own open source sound meters for Amsterdam Sounds. In this blog (written in Dutch) we explain which choices have been made and why.
