Open Data Day

Better tools. More data. Bigger Fun. The 2013 Open Data Day was held on February 23rd. The last year has seen open data continue to gain traction around the world with new open data catalogs launched in Europe, North America and Africa and more data than ever available from organizations like the World Bank. What interesting things we can do with it?

It was a gathering of citizens in cities around the world to write applications, liberate data, create visualizations and publish analyses using open public data to show support for and encourage the adoption open data policies by the world's local, regional and national governments.

Future Internet Lab of Waag has actively promoted the use of open data for some time now. We encourage governments to free their data but also like to see developers using the data for new applications for our society. We do so by organizing app contest to bring together data providers, developers and citizens. And after Apps for Amsterdam, North-Holland and The Netherlands we will soon continue with Apps for Europe.
