With GammaSense 2.0 we develop a citizen network for the measurement of radioactive radiation. We enable citizens to measure gamma radiations through the camera of a laptop or smartphone and also with an open hardware solution. We help interest groups that support citizens with their concerns about nuclear power plants and radioactive radiation by providing open tools and knowledge.

The project arose from the risk that citizens run when an emergency arises in Europe with radioactive radiation. In the European citizen science programme Making Sense, Waag investigated the possibilities of a citizen network for measuring gamma radiation. GammaSense 2.0 improves the existing application, develops an associated open hardware measuring device and involves the international community to build a citizen measurement network.

This project is carried out together with WISE International and is made possible by SIDN Fund.
